Devyn was one of my first students when I first started teaching at NNPS. He was the most adorable 5 yr old I´d seen. We instantly bonded and he absorbed ASL and education like a sponge. One memory I will never forget is that everyone told me Devyn was signing and acting exactly like me. I was puzzled so I watched him sign and realized, oh my goodness!! He´s my clone!! I laughed so hard because it was so cute and precious! Although I did need to be careful when having an adult conversation! Oh how I LOVED having him as my student for 3 years. I was so blessed to have kept in touch with him as he grew up into a beautiful and successful young man. He will be deeply missed and forever loved. I do want to share something very special that just happened to me few days ago. Out of the blue, he suddenly appeared and was hugging everyone and telling them he was okay and that he was at peace and happy and that he loved them. I immediately felt at peace even though I´m still grieving. He IS with the Lord and IS happy and at peace. He loves you all, especially his family! I love you!! Deandra Wood

as I look back on our time together, I find myself wandering up and down Memory Lane, gathering memories of our time together, having known him since he was 5 or 6. We attended the same elementary school, where he was part of the first class taught by Deandra 'Bush' Wood, the first Deaf teacher to teach at Newport News Public Schools. From our very first meeting, it was evident that he had a bright personality, overflowing with life, warmth, and a great sense of humor. He continued to radiate these qualities when he joined me at Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind, where he grew into a confident social butterfly and a respected leader. He was a visionary with an unwavering passion to chase his dreams and bring his vision to life. He took great pride in his achievements. I will always treasure the memory of Devyn as the kid who dared to dream, sharing love and kindness without limits. He now joins the multitude of stars keeping watch over us.

This is a hard one. Devyn is my little cousin and I can remember since he was very young he was always so loving and caring. He was protective over his siblings and family. Devyn lived proud and represented what a person can and will do regardless of any disabilities or setbacks. He accomplished so much in so little time. We love you Devyn and my heart is with your parents and siblings.
