KERNERSVILLE- Dewey Ray Knight, 79 passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 29, 2025. He was a native of Forsyth County. Dewey was a bit of a surprise, shocking his mother and doctor, when he was born moments after his twin brother, Dennis. They arrived on June 14, 1946 to the late Victor Knight and Ruby Idol Knight.
Dewey had a long, successful career with the Guilford County school system where he initially taught and coached. He had a knack for reaching and shaping many young minds, by his wit and humor, along with his more serious side, that helped prepare his students for their future endeavors. He ended his career working with the School Bus and Traffic Safety division.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters Irene Meadows and Colleen Snyder; and brothers Denver Knight, Worth Knight, Benny Knight, Floyd Knight and Dennis Knight, The family circle is now complete.
Surviving is his beloved son, Johnathan Ray Knight and grandsons, Corbin, Colton and Canaan Knight of Greensboro, NC. He also leaves to cherish many nieces and nephews that he loved without reservation. Lastly, his trusted companion, Bucket - his coon dog, was by his side when he entered the gates of heaven. Bucket now resides with Johnathan and his sons and will get the love and affection always given by PawPaw Dewey.
Visitation will be from 1:00 – 1:45 and funeral will be conducted at 2:00 on Friday, December 5, 2025 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Francis Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Bunker Hill cemetery.
