Dewey Ray Proctor Sr, 91, of Marion, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday March 17, 2024, Valor Hall, Hospice wing at the Community Living Center at the VA Medical Center, in Asheville.  

He was born, in Marion, January, 20, 1933 to the late James Debert Proctor, Sr and Ethel Amanda Anderson Proctor. He is proceeded in death by his wife Ella Mae Bradley Proctor, daughter Patti Lynn Proctor Jackson and husband Michael Holloway Jackson. Son Dewey Ray Proctor Jr. (Butch). Sisters Gertrude Proctor Newman, Jessie Proctor Buckner, Carrie Proctor Kaltz, Geneve Proctor Marlowe, Edna Proctor and Margaret Proctor Woody. Dewey is survived by one brother James Delbert Proctor Jr. (JD), of Marion. One son Stephen (Steve) Proctor and wife Becky, of Marion. One daughter Denise Proctor White, of Myrtle Beach SC. A special niece Jacqueline Herbert Eisemann, of Richmond MI. Six Grandchildren, Stephanie Proctor Lackey (Greg), Dr. Crystal White (Tim), Megan Proctor Swindell (Chris), Elizabeth White, Bradley Proctor (Anastasia) and Joshua Jackson. Five Great Grandchildren, Ryan Lackey, Brooklyn Swindell, AJ Lackey, Adelaide Proctor and Amelia Proctor. 

Dewey had an extensive military career. He entered the Army on November 22, 1953 and retired July 31, 1976. During his time in service, he was a combat veteran of Korea and Vietnam. Dewey received numerous awards which included Bronze star, Korean service Medal, Vietnam service Medal good conduct, combat infantry badge, Air medal, Army commendation medal. Also receiving US Presidential unit citation, Korean Presidential unit citation, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with palm. Dewey also attended the 7th Army noncommissioned officer academy and Army drill sergeant school. 

After the military Dewey worked as an electrician and builder and later for Guardsmark as captain of security for Baxter’s, until he retired for a second time. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather (Paw). He liked going fishing, going to the trade lot, gun trading as well as gun smithing, and being with his friends. 

A memorial service will be held at Beams Funeral Service Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. with a military service to follow at State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain, NC. The family will recieve friends from 9:30 - 10:30 one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
