Dewey Watson Rickman, 85, went home to be with the Lord while surrounded by his family at his home in Reidsville.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Wilkerson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Reidlawn Cemetery.

Dewey was born to the late Ora “Trixie” and Ruby Tucker Rickman on July 26, 1938, in Rockingham County. Dewey served in the United States Army in the early 60’s during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his military service, he got his contractor license and began building houses. He became the owner and operator of Creative Builders and built over 200 houses in and around the Rockingham County area. He also built numerous churches, banks, and doctors' offices.

Dewey had a place at Buggs Island where he loved to fish. He loved to go on his annual fishing trip to the coast of North Carolina. He also loved his tractors, garden and farming. He loved anything chocolate and had an incredible sweet tooth. Everyone who knew Dewey loved Dewey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Leilani Thacker Rickman; second wife, Shirley Dunlap Rickman; brothers, Paul Rickman, Charlie Rickman, Robert Rickman, and sister, Peggy Rickman Chapmon.

He is survived by his son, Jason Rickman; step-daughter, Cheryl Bunton (Stephen); step-son, Steve Dunlap; brothers, Earl Rickman, Johnny Rickman; sister, Denise “Tootie” Rickman Jones; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
