Ofield Funeral HomeDian Lynn (Shelberg) Main died on February 26, 2026 in Kalamazoo, MI.
She was born in Florence, Alabama, to Edward and Nell (Ray) Shelberg on October 8, 1944. She was raised in Lansing and graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1963, and attended Lansing Community College. She was involved in theater as well as raising, training, and showing dogs. As a teen, her love of animals included purchasing a horse without her parents' knowledge.
She met her future husband, Dr. Kenneth Main, while he was in the veterinary program at Michigan State University. After he graduated, they married in 1972. In 1980, they started and built their own business, Allegan Animal Clinic, and moved to their Allegan farm where they raised a menagerie of animals, dozens of dogs and quarter horses over the next 50 years. Her pursuit of breeding and showing American Quarter Horses led to her being active in the Michigan Quarter Horse Association and its Stallion Service Sale, serving on its board, and being inducted into MQHA's Hall of Fame.
Dian's creativity and love of crafting led to her involvement in Camp Kidwell and its Festival of Trees and raising funds for the camp and serving on its Board. In recognition of her many contributions, she received the Heroes of Camp Kidwell Award.
For 8 years, Dian was an aide at Pine Trail Elementary School and loved working individually with those who needed special attention.
Dian is survived by her husband, Dr. Ken Main, daughter Chris Main; sisters, Janice Kesel and Ellen Horstman; grandchildren Aiden and Elizabeth Boucher, and Sofia Slopsema; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends, Mitch and Charlis Boucher.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Camp Kidwell in Bloomingdale, MI or Wings of Hope Hospice in Allegan, MI.
A celebration of Dian's life will be held on May 9, 2026 at 1:00pm at Camp Kidwell.
