Diana Fitzgerald

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Diana Fitzgerald, age 69, who passed away peacefully at Hilton Head Hospital on November 24, 2025. Diana was born in New York and raised in Port Washington, Long Island to the late Reinhold and Velta Bekeris, both Latvian emigrants. Diana was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an adoring friend to so many. She was a passionate tennis player, who never missed a match on television, and was a regular attendee along with her son at the U.S. Open in Queens, New York. Her enthusiasm for the sport was matched only by her kindness and unwavering support for her family and friends.

Diana was involved in the healthcare industry with a long career as an office manager for a Surgical Oncology group in Great Neck, New York. Throughout her life, she found joy in the simple pleasures: spending time with her cherished husband and son, playing tennis at the local courts, enjoying a good meal, and taking care of her beloved dog. The family relocated to Hilton Head and Bluffton in 2017. They instantly fell in love with the area, the wonderful people, and the beautiful waterfront views. They enjoyed dining at many local restaurants, creating lasting memories with family and friends alike.

Diana is survived by her devoted husband of 38 years, Edward; her loving son, Ryan, a teacher in New York; her sister Renate, a resident of Greenville, South Carolina; her beloved dog, Murphy; and numerous friends and extended family members whom she loved dearly. She will be forever missed and treasured.

A memorial service will be held for friends and family at Sauls Funeral Home- 90 Simmonsville Rd, Bluffton, SC 29910 on Saturday, December 6th between the hours of 2:00-4:00p.m. The service will additionally be live streamed on the website. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Diana Fitzgerald’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
