Diane Etue, 78, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 11, in Nederland. A memorial service will take place Monday, Nov. 17, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation at 10:00 a.m., at Broussard's Funeral Home in Nederland, with Pastor Anna Armstrong officiating.
Born Patricia Diane Wilson on July 3, 1947, in Jasper, she was the eldest child of Molton Marcelle "Jake" Wilson and Iris Marie "Jimmie" Jefferson Wilson, descended from some of Jasper's founding families. She grew up in the Holly Springs community, attended Holly Springs Baptist Church and graduated from Jasper High School in 1965. She studied nursing at Baptist Hospital of South East Texas School of Nursing, graduated in 1968, and soon earned her license to practice as a registered nurse, a career to which she was well suited. In the late 70's, she took a position at Temple Industries, now known as WestRock, in Evadale, to provide care for employees as the company nurse. In 1972 she married Larry Etue; their union endured 49 years, until he passed away in 2021.
Diane and Larry became proud parents of a daughter, Annette, and a son, John, raising them in a loving home where they imparted faith and integrity, nurturing them to excel in school, pursue higher education, build successful careers and form their own families.
After a 50 plus years of providing kind, skilled and knowledgeable nursing care, Diane retired in 2019 and enjoyed an active retirement. In 2023, she moved to Nederland to be closer to Annette's family. She visited John's family; traveled with her sisters, Linda and Susie; and volunteered at Baptist Hospital. Even when she experienced her own health issues, her dedication to helping others never wavered; family members cherished her thoughtful support and wise advice.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Molton Marcelle "Jake" Wilson and Iris Marie "Jimmie" Jefferson Wilson; her husband, Larry Joseph Etue; a brother, Billy Jack "Butch" Wilson; a sister, Mary Marcelle Wilson; a sister-in-law, Sandra Ludwig; two brothers-in-law, Walter "Sonny" Kelley and Kelvin Etue; and a niece, Mary Bradley.
She will be deeply missed by family members who survive her, including a daughter, Annette Etue Smith, and her husband, Kirk, of Nederland; a son, John Etue, and wife, Cristine, of La Grange; grandchildren; Jackson, Caroline and Charlotte Etue; Kooper Smith, Zachary and wife, Jessica Smith, Danielle & husband, Roy Tiller; 4 great grandchildren; sisters, Linda Kelley, of Jasper, and Susie Culver and husband, Rick, of The Woodlands; two sisters-in-law, Janice Wilson, of Jasper, and Sheila Herrin and husband, Joe, of Evadale; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to Port Neches Public Library, Lamar Scholarship Program of Nursing or the
charity of your choice.
A gathering of Ms. Etue family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 17, 2025 with a Memorial Service to follow at Broussard's, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.
