Diane Himes Obituary

DIANE MARGARET HIMES
January 13, 1945 ˜ April 20, 2023

Diane Margaret Himes passed away April 20, 2023, at the age of 78 after a 4 1/2 year battle with ovarian and finally pancreatic cancer.
Diane was born in Butte, MT, January 13, 1945. She was the oldest daughter of Chet and Margaret Jones. She was very proud of her hometown, Butte and it was there that she met her future husband, Marshall Himes. They were married in Riverton, WY, on August 4, 1967. Their two children, Troy and Gina, were born in 1970 and 1971. She and Marshall established homes in Riverton, WY, Tucson, AZ, Missoula, MT, Salt Lake City, Papua New Guinea, Kelowna, BC, and finally Battle Ground, WA. Diane was a dedicated mother (and grandmother), homemaker, talented seamstress, cook, and volunteer at school & church. Cycling was a favorite activity for Diane, and she really enjoyed defeating her husband at both golf and pool. Although recently the struggles with cancer had become all consuming, she was buoyed by her faith and was able to spend the last bit of her life planning one last root beer float social with her kids and cherished grandchildren at her side laughing and remembering all the good times. Survivors include husband, Marshall Himes of Battle Ground Washington; children, Troy Himes (Shelece) of Billings Montana, and Gina Himes Boor (Chris) of Bozeman Montana; sister Lenette Caruso (Paul) of Helena; grandchildren, Arlo, Elijah, Grace, and Jackson.
Thank you to Dr. Gina Westhoff and the most caring staff of the Legacy Medical Group-Gynecologic Oncology office for the 4 1/2 years of care throughout her cancer journey. An additional thanks to the outstanding staff at Legacy Hospital at Salmon Creek for the care they provided Diane in her last two weeks of life.
As per Diane’s wishes there will be no memorial service. She requested that any memorials be sent to the charities Open House Ministries in Vancouver (www.sheltered.org) and the Salmon Creek Cancer Fund (www.legacyhealthgiving.org).

We didn´t know each other, however, our brief encounter Eastbound on HWY 84 in Oregon on July 3rd, 2020, we stopped to help a couple whom we saw off road, dealing with a vehicle trailer mishap.
By the time we all were all ready to continue on our journeys, we had exchanged phone numbers in hopes to meet up again someday. I have carried your number for the last 5 years in my wallet, and recently came across it. Must have been a reason. You both had made such a wonderful impression on myself and my husband that we talked of you very often with hopes to meet up and get to know each other better. We are so sorry we never made it your way. May you always be in peace Diane. And wish you Marshall, fond love and memories of your beautiful wife. Same for your family as well. Please know that you will always be in our hearts and memory. Even though, for our very brief encounter.

Diane and I were great buddies for many years sharing lots of the same lives like primitives, antiques and good coffee. She taught me how to order by Starbucks lattes,180 degrees no foam ,
Which I still do.
I miss her

I always enjoyed seeing Diane at church or even running into each other at Winco. She always had a smile on her face and displayed a wonderful life lived for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
