Diane McAllister Obituary

DIANE B. McALLISTER
April 4, 1946 ˜ January 30, 2024

Diane Bradford McAllister was born in Portland, OR, April 4, 1946. Diane passed Jan. 30, 2024, in Vancouver, WA.
Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Springfield, OR, where she graduated from Springfield High School in 1964.
She married John Herrick in 1972. In 1991, she married Charles Dunning and they were together until his passing in 1999. She met and married Robert McAllister in 2008.
Diane had a long and varied career. She was a travel agent, then owner of her own travel agency in Sisters, OR. She was also a wedding planner, bookkeeper, and an administrative assistant. Diane was working as co-director for a national business association at the time of her death.
After marrying Bob, they enjoyed many motorcycle trips and golf excursions in the “Saucy” convertible, often with her Newfie’ Noah in the back seat. She loved her numerous trips with her group of golf gal pals and friends from high school. She was a member of Prineville Country Club and treasurer for Friends of Hospice - SW Washington.
More important than who she knew and what she did is who she was. Diane was, above all else, kind. She exuded love for those around her. She was quick to laugh and quicker still to help where help was needed. She carried a quiet strength worthy of emulation.
Diane is survived by her husband, Bob; her brother, Charles Bradford (wife, Jacqueline); also her stepson, John Herrick (wife, Patti); stepson, Clarke Dunning (wife, Janet); stepson, Bill McAllister (wife, Deana); and stepdaughter, Susan Martin (husband, Greg),
We will celebrate Diane’s life May 5 at the Kennedy School in Portland, OR, 12:30-3:30 p.m.
Remembrances may be made to Friends of Hospice - SW WA.

Diane joined Friends of Hospice and immediately took on the task of being the treasurer, a role that was pretty time consuming. She did it well. She always had a smile on her face and was full of grace and elegance. I feel honored to have known and worked with her.

I have to say ..Diane was a friend in the truist form. She and i met and became good friends back in the 80's when we both lived at Black BUtte Ranch. We found eachother again when we lived in the Portland area and whenI moved to Central Oregon in 2005, she came for a fisit several times. Always a smile.. and a laugh, and she was just so easy to be around. We were Mutt and Jeff.. but we sure could have tons of fun. here is one of my favorite photos, with Jeanie too.

Diane was my best friend for 42 years. She brought such light and joy into my life She flew down South to visit me every year and we loved life together. Out of all the women I have known in my lifetime she was the most giving, perfect, thoughtful friend I was fortunate enough to have. May God adore her as much as her friends did. Fond Friend, Vicki Huskin

Thank you Noah for introducing your parents to me. It has been such a joy to see how Diane and Bob loved you and celebrated you in their life. Here we celebrated your second birthday with scrumptious pupcakes made by Diane for all to enjoy.
Diane also enjoyed taking you to the fashion shows at Touchmark in Vancouver.

Seeing how much fun and love your parents had for you and one another filled my heart with joy!
Diane certainly made it a point to share her smile, good energy and talents with friends, family and our community. I´m so grateful to have shared time with her. May the goodness she brought to our lives be treasured with love.

I cherish most the friendship which for Diane meant she was there for you no matter the situation. She took that walk along side you. I miss that home made Irish Creme; the whole eggs in it - shells and all - because that was what the recipe called for. Whole, uncracked eggs! ( a little fine sand there but we drank it anyway). I miss all your gifts - the Love and Laughter too!
