Detroit, Michigan to loving parents Lorenzo and Alice Wiley, Diane's life was a testament to the power of education, family, and love.
Diane's early years in Detroit laid a strong foundation for a life dedicated to learning and teaching. After obtaining her Bachelor in Science and Physics at The School of Education from Wayne State University, she embarked on a remarkable teaching career with the Detroit Public Schools system and spent the majority of her career at Stark School of Technology. For over 31 years, Diane inspired young minds as a teacher of math and science, touching countless lives with her wisdom and care.
Her commitment to education extended beyond the classroom as she pioneered the Space and Aeronautics program for Detroit Youth at Selfridge Air Force Base. She also was awarded many educational grants throughout her career and was a recipient of The Golden Apple Award in Teaching. Diane had years of involvement with the National Science Teaching Association, the American Federation of Teachers and The Detroit Federation of Teachers which highlighted her dedication to her profession and her desire to make a lasting impact on young minds. Diane's selflessness was evident in her extraordinary generosity. She gave freely to her students of her time, resources, and food to those in need and was always seeking to uplift those around her. Her humility and kindness left an indelible mark on her community, and her spirit of giving resonated through all her actions.
She lived in St. Thomas Virgin Islands for some time and it was on a plane ride coming back fromfrom the island that she met her future husband Robert Clyde Park they bonded during the flight while watching the film Annie Hall and sharing their life stories. It was the spark of a love story that spanned 42 years until Robert passed away unexpectedly on January 15, 2020. Their life together was a journey filled with adventure and romance. Together, they traveled the world twice, embracing the beauty of diverse cultures and experiences including a memorable voyage on the Love Boat.
Her love for Robert was symbolized by the yellow rose, which is a symbol of friendship and a reminder of the many dozens he courted her with, and a representation of the love and joy that flourished in their marriage. They truly were best friends for life. Diane's interests were as varied and colorful as her life was. She was an avid photographer, traveler, explorer, a lover of crafts and devoted to her career and family including her parents, three children, siblings and a multitude of close cousins, nephews and nieces all of whom she loved very much.
