Dianne Blaney Obituary

Dianne Hansen Blaney

1954 -2025

South Jordan - Dianne Hansen Blaney, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, endured to the end, peacefully finishing her life's journey on January 13, 2025, surrounded by her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, teaching, music, service, adventure, courage and perseverance.

Born on June 22, 1954, in Emmett, Idaho, Dianne was raised on the family farm with her five older siblings, whom she loved all her life. At age 9, her family moved to Orem, Utah, and throughout her teenage years, she developed talents in music, athletics and homemaking. She graduated from Brigham Young University in 1975 and began teaching elementary school. Dianne married Edwin Evans Blaney in the Provo Utah Temple on February 18, 1977, and taught for another year before having her first child and becoming a fulltime mother.

Dianne and Ed raised five children. Dianne was a wonderful mother, ensuring that her children had everything they needed. She was a natural teacher, helping her children learn school topics and the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She organized camping trips and other fun outings for her family. She helped each of her children identify their interests and supported them in all they did.

Exceptional at cooking and baking, Dianne was well known for her home-cooked meals, cakes, pies, and mint brownies. She sewed and quilted, often making gifts for others. Dianne was a devoted piano teacher to dozens of students. She loved to read and participate in book clubs. Throughout her life, she served faithfully in various church callings, including Primary President, Young Women President, Scout leader, organist, and ward & stake choir director. While serving in her church and community, Dianne made many lifelong friends.

In 1996, Dianne went back to her teaching career and taught for 22 more years, at Westvale Elementary and Midas Creek Elementary. Dianne sought opportunities to pursue her musical talents and interests. For 15 years, Dianne performed with the Wasatch Community Symphony as a violinist and pianist, and she sang for 10 years with the Sterling Singers. Dianne passed on her love for music to her children and grandchildren, and she loved watching them perform.

Dianne loved to travel to new places and make memories with her family, extended family, and friends, eventually completing her goal to visit all 7 continents. She was also a sports enthusiast, watching and cheering on BYU and the Utah Jazz. In her later years, she grew a love for watching NFL football while sewing Minky blankets.

Family was the cornerstone of Dianne's life. As her children grew and married, she hosted dinners every Sunday to bring her family together. She was very proud of her children and their spouses, and she absolutely loved being Grandma to her 15 grandchildren.

At age 61 Dianne was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. She confronted her treatments with remarkable bravery and resilience. Dianne lived life to the fullest, and her spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her. She will be dearly missed, but her family finds solace in the joyful reunion she is having with her parents and other loved ones.

Dianne is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Hansen and Amanda Wheeler, and many beloved family members and close friends. She is survived by her husband, Edwin Evans Blaney; her siblings, Nels (Kathy) Hansen, Mark (Trudy) Hansen, Verne (Christie) Hansen, Chere (David) Evans, and Darrell (Anne) Hansen; her five children, Weston (Sara) Blaney, Philip (Linda) Blaney, Andrea (Ryan) Whipple, Kirsti (Spencer) Killpack, Erica (Wes) Swensen; and fifteen cherished grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at 1239 W. Country Creek Dr., South Jordan, Utah, and broadcast online. Family and friends may pay their respects at a viewing on Friday, January 24, 2025, 6-8:00 PM at Jenkins-Soffe funeral home, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, and prior to the Saturday funeral service from 10:00 to 10:45 AM. Interment will follow at South Jordan Cemetery.

Dear Hansen family,
We send our condolences and love to the Hansen family. As kids we grew up in Orem just next door to this exemplary family and we came to love them all. Over the 60+ years, that love and respect of this wonderful family has not diminished. We all have such treasured memories of our time with them. We wanted to share AGAIN that love and respect at this time of Dianne's passing.

So sorry to hear of the graduation of my sweet and kind friend Dianne. I was the little boy next door in Orem who came to love and admire Dianne and the WHOLE Hansen family. They were fabulous neighbors and dear friends!
My remembrance of Dianne as my neighbor, friend, and fellow ward member will always be her kindness, goodness, and discipleship!
All of us who knew her then (50-60 years ago) knew that she was dead-center on the strait and narrow (now covenant) path.
I will always have tender and sweet memories of this wonderful friend!
