Dixie L. Carter, 64, of Lake Nebagamon, WI., formerly of Sioux City, IA, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023, after a courageous 9-week battle with cancer. Services will be held at 12:00p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2023, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Dixie will then be laid to rest next to her mom at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. A celebration of life will be held in March in Wisconsin.

Dixie Lynn Carter, the only child of Maurice Allen and Donna (Hummel) Gupton was born March 2, 1959, on a military base in Fairbanks, Alaska. After moving often over the course of her father's military career, she eventually settled in Sioux City where she graduated from East High School. As a young mother, Dixie completed nursing school and began her career immediately following graduation. Her passion for the medical industry was evident in every aspect of her 40+ year medical career. She was instrumental in the trauma department and developing education programs in the 1980s at the then Marian Health Center, including “Use Your Feet To See How Deep” and the “Crash Test Dummies, Vince and Larry.” Her drive to further her career led her to Austin and Duluth, MN, where her dream of being a flight nurse came true. She excelled in every healthcare department she found herself working in whether it be in the helicopter, hospital, clinic, OB, ER, surgery, trauma, education, or case management. Most recently you could find her implementing the “Stop the Bleed” program for the Trauma Center at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth. If you were fortunate enough to have ever met Dixie, your life was impacted by her, and even those who never met her personally have been touched by the work to which she contributed.

Those who will miss her terribly until we are reunited with her again include her four children: Jessica (Jim) Kastning of Ponca, NE; Michelle Hanna of Cleghorn, IA.; Rick Carter of Lake Nebagamon, WI and Brandi (Mark) Little of Lake Nebagamon, WI; her 12 grandchildren Nick, Katy (Dillion), Michael, Dylan, Allissa, Morgan, Aubree, Colton, Liam, Abbie, Sadie and Alayna; bonus son and grandchildren Brandon Carter, Cayden and Lindsey; cousins, many friends and co-workers.

Waiting to greet her in Heaven were her parents, her special cousin Mark Walker, and many close friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please make a donation in her honor to a charity you hold dear to your heart.
