Dixie Lou James

Manti, UT

With hearts full of love and gratitude toward our beautiful and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, we announce the passing of our sweet Dixie Lou James, on August 29, 2025.

Dixie was born on October 20, 1937 to Devona Lena and Kenneth LaMar Keisel, the eighth of sixteen children. Raised in a bustling and loving home, she learned early the values of hard work, compassion, and faith—principles that guided her entire life.

She is survived by her eternal sweetheart, LaMar James, with whom she shared sixty eight years of love and devotion. Together they have a true love story and built a legacy as they raised five children: Ronny (Claudia), Carol Hansen (Roy - deceased), Wendy Cheney (Don), Shauna Kelsch (Ken), and Evan (Analynn). Dixie was so proud of her 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and looked forward to having more. The kids always knew that there was an ice cream sandwich, Smiley Fruit Snacks and a $1 bill waiting for them at grandma’s.

A woman of remarkable service, Dixie was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In her cherished callings within the Relief Society and Humanitarian Center she lovingly helped make thousands of quilts that warmed not just bodies but hearts across the world. Her hands were rarely still, as she crocheted afghans and made her wonderful chocolate chip cookies and Christmas fruit cakes to give away to loved ones. She was a friend to all and was always working to make those around her comfortable and happy.

She served a mission with her sweetheart at the LDS Bishop’s Storehouse and lived her faith in quiet and consistent ways. Though she traveled to many places around the world, Manti, Utah, was always home— an anchor for her and her family.

Above all, Dixie loved her family deeply. Her legacy is woven into the fabric of every life she touched. Her warmth, faith, and selfless love will forever surround her family, who know she is never far away.

Dixie never liked to say “goodbye.” Instead, she always said, “so long” or “see you later.” And so, with love in our hearts, and looking forward to being with her again, we say, “see you later.“ She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the LDS Ward Chapel, 295 South Main Street, Manti, Utah. There will be a viewing prior to services at the church from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Manti City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
