Dixie Jlee was born March 22, 1937, in Cuba, Illinois to Corda Fry and Maurice (Theadore) Taylor. She Married David La Mere on December 20, 1958, in Rock Island, Illinois. She was a retired Home Economics/Science teacher from the Kankakee School District. At the time of her death, she was living with her husband in Pekin, Illinois. Before living in Pekin they had moved from Kankakee, Illinois to her hometown of Cuba, Illinois. They wanted to be closer to their family farm outside of Bushnell, Illinois. She was a member of the Cuba Methodist Church and the founding member of Cuba Cares. A non-profit organization committed to the betterment and beautification of Cuba. One of her proudest accomplishments was the installation of a Cuba Veteran's Memorial on the Cuba Square. Dixie was an avid antique collector and enjoyed learning and sharing local history. She was also a proud member of the Mayflower Society. She was in awe of how much American history her family had seen and been a vital part. She was also a member of the teaching sororities Delta Kappa Gamma and PEO. She is survived by her husband David, son Dane of Pekin, son Dreu and his wife Angela of Pekin, grandsons Cameron and Ethan of Pekin and a nephew Teddy Reichert of Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Sheryl, and a son David Charles.
