Dixie Jean Nelson

Dixie Jean Mathews Nelson, age 87, of Nampa, Idaho, passed away on February 17, 2026.

She was born on September 19, 1939, in Buhl, Idaho, to (Le)Roy Elmo Mathews of Bailey, Colorado, and Velma Floressa Chriswell of Buhl, Idaho.

Raised in and around Orofino, Idaho where her father worked as a lumberjack in the timber industry. When she was 13 years old, he was killed in a logging accident (1953). Dixie's life was rooted in family and the values she learned growing up in Idaho.

Married to Jesse S Berain, she is survived by four children; Barrett Berain, Manuel Berain (Sandy), Teresa Keller (Todd), Jesse L Berain (Lisa). Also, surviving; 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, divorced after 17 years.

Married 25 years to and preceded in death by Larry Nelson; survived by 4 children from a previous marriage.

A service to honor Dixie's life will be held on Monday, March 2nd, 2026, at Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel in Nampa, starting with a viewing from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Funeral Service at 1:00 PM, followed by a graveside service at Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa, at 2:00 PM.

Her presence will be deeply missed, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
