Dixie Wagaman Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Dixie Lee Wagaman left her earthly home on September 27th 2025 from natural causes.

Dixie, was born March 20, 1938 to June Jepson and Gilmer Charles Nicholls in Big Horn Wyoming. Her mother named her Dixie because she missed her southern Utah home. Dixie married John Flinders and gave birth to their son John Lewis (Jan). She married Kirby Wagaman on March 14th 1964 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, July 16th 1988. Their children include Kirby Steven (deceased), Dawn Marie (Scott), Steven Patrick (Denise), and Daniel Jesse (Candace). She is survived by her brother Tim (Cindy) Reder, 4 Children, 11 Grandchildren, and 8 Great Grandchildren and with 2 more on the way.

After Kirby passed away, she met Ray Widener who was her best friend for 21 years.

Dixie worked multiple jobs, but her favorites were working for Granite School District as a lunch lady and helping on the playground. She could always be recognized by her fiery red hair and her sense of humor. While being vertically challenged, it was never a good idea to refer to her as Short. The children she worked with loved to stand next to Dixie, and could not wait to get taller than her.

Dixie served faithfully in multiple church callings. Her leadership roles included Young Women's and Primary Presidencies. She had a talent in working with the children and the youth and developed many long lasting friendships with those that she served.

Dixie was a strong individual and demonstrated that strength as she fought with and won her battle with breast cancer.

Dixie loved spending time with her family, especially at the family property in Wyoming where she could often be found playing cards.

Despite her declining health, Dixie always maintained her sense of humor. Always joking and bringing smiles to all who were around her.

When the Doctor told Dixie she could no longer live in her home by herself, she moved to West Jordan where she stayed at Sunridge Assisted Living. The family is grateful for the love and care that the staff showed to her.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Susan G Koman Breast Cancer Organization in her name. https://www.komen.org

Interment to take place at Memorial Holladay Cemetery.

She got me my side job of 17 years as her sub at Morningside elementary. Dixie had the most infectious and genuine spirit. I can only hope if we meet in heaven that my first words to my unassuming friend will be "I'm with her..."

Dixie, my friend, it was fun to be your friend as we were Playground Aides for Morningside Elementary for years. Yes, we were there for all the recesses through sun, rain, snow, sleet! The joy of that job were the kids and keeping them safe. I´ll always remember seeing how the children gathered around you whether on upper or lower playgrounds. They loved you, Dixie.
