Surrounded by her loving family, Dixie Lou Wayson, 91, of Vinton, passed away Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Vinton Lutheran Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 12, at the Presbyterian Church of Vinton, with Pastor Hans Poetschner officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Dixie and her family. Dixie was born November 5, 1933, in Peru, IA, the daughter of Russell and Cora (Davis) Stickels. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1951. On November 6, 1951, she was united in marriage to C.M. (Jack) Wayson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Jack preceded her in death December 2018. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. She had a special place in her heart for children and loved spending time with her grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great-grandson. Dixie was a longtime member of the Vinton Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, was director of the youth choir, sang in the Sunday choir, and served as Deacon. She worked in the Benton County Treasurer's Office for 22 years, retiring in 1992. She was a member of Minor Chord and Sweet Adelines. She was a talented seamstress and sewed many items for her family and friends over the years. Dixie is survived by her children: Sonja (Joe) Bridge of Cedar Rapids, B.J. (Michelle) Wayson of Mt. Auburn, and Melissa (Mark) Chapman of Dysart; five grandchildren: Stephanie Bridge (James Heistand) of Cedar Rapids, Blake Wayson (Jennifer) of Waterloo, Elissa (Brock) Maxwell of Altoona, Michael (Rachel) Wayson of Mt. Auburn, and Cole Laughridge of Dysart; nine great-grandchildren: Angel, Caitlin, Brady, Bo, Emma, Jack, Sara, Jase, and Kyleigh; one great-great-grandson, Jaxon; her beloved sister, Billie Jans of Traer; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sister, LaVonn Johnson; and brothers, Charles and John Stickels. The family wishes to thank the staff at Vinton Lutheran Home Living Communities and Compassus Hospice for their loving care of Dixie.
