Dollie Hawley Moore, 80, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, January 25, 2026. She is now rejoicing in a heavenly reunion with her parents and the siblings who were waiting to welcome her home. Born on November 14, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Purvis Hawley and Irma Boykin Hawley.
In addition to her parents, Dollie was preceded in death by her siblings, Peggy Hawley Evans, Bill Hawley, and Charles Hawley.
Dollie is survived by her loving husband, Danny Moore; her beautiful and beloved sister, Jean Macino; her dearly loved son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Brooke Lewis; and her grandchildren, Ashton Lewis, Abby Lewis, and Miranda Lewis, each of whom held a very special and cherished place in her heart. Her memory will also be treasured by Gerald Hawley, Sherrie Joyner, Wallace Hawley, Jim and Nancy Hawley, and Gale Stancil, along with a host of extended family members and many lifelong friends and neighbors who were touched by her kindness and selflessness.
Dollie was a woman of deep faith, unwavering strength, and boundless love. A devoted Baptist, she loved the Lord with her whole heart and lived her life as a reflection of that faith. While she was a faithful lifelong member of Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church, she frequently visited other area churches, where she was always grateful for the fellowship and the warm acceptance of her church family throughout the community.
A lover of music, Dollie's spirit was often lifted by the sounds of gospel and the classics. While she was a lifelong fan of Elvis Presley, she was perhaps the biggest fan of Blake Shelton. Her home and heart were often filled with the melodies she loved.
Tough as nails and strong in spirit, Dollie faced life head-on with grit, determination, and grace. She was the kind of person who never hesitated to put others before herself, always ready to lend a helping hand, offer encouragement, or give a ride to work to any of those who may need one. Above all, her favorite thing to do was bring a plate of food to anyone who needed it.
Family meant everything to Dollie. She loved them fiercely and wholeheartedly, and her care and devotion were felt by all who had the blessing of being part of her life. Her kindness extended far beyond her home; many in the community came to know and love her through her years of work at Papa Jack's, where she was not just an employee, but a familiar face, a steady presence, and a friend to many.
Dollie leaves behind a legacy of faith, hard work, kindness, and selflessness. Her life was one of service to God, to her family, and to all those she encountered. Though she will be deeply missed, her example will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her and in the many lives she touched.
A service to celebrate Dollie's life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church. Dollie will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Kenly Funeral Service.
