Dolores "Mick" Behnke

MORTON – Dolores J. "Mick" Behnke, 95, of Morton, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton. She was born September 8, 1928, in Peoria. Mick was the daughter of Robert and Irene (Williams) Moran. She married Robert Behnke on May 29, 1948, in Peoria. He preceded her in death on October 27, 2007. She was also preceded in death by one brother, three sisters, and one great-granddaughter, two sons-in-law, Rick Weasmer and Brett Hall. Surviving are two sons, Rich (Terrie) Behnke of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin and Tom (Eric Bello) Behnke of San Jose, California; three daughters, Lynne (Don) Barker of East Peoria, Chris Weasmer of Mackinaw and Julie (Dan) Schmitt of Tonica, Illinois; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Mick worked for 10 years at Witzig's Department Store in Morton in the Sportswear Department until retiring in 1991. She was a founding member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton and she also served as the first cook at the Blessed Sacrament School. At church, she participated in the Altar and Rosary Society. Mick volunteered at Missionaries of Charity, Neighborhood House and Sophia's Kitchen, all in Peoria. Mick was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She will be missed by many. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 5, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton, with Fr. Nick Conner officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. Further visitation will from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. on Monday prior to the service, at the church. Burial of cremated remains will be at Roberts Cemetery in Morton at a later date.
