Dolores Dygon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by De Stefano Funeral Home - Amsterdam on Feb. 26, 2025.
Dolores Ann Dygon, 89, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Mountain Valley Hospice.
She was born in Amsterdam and was the daughter of the late Mary and Gregory Esposito and survived by her brother, Gregory Esposito Jr., of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Dolores was a graduate of St. Mary's Institute Catholic School. She has always been a devoted member of the Catholic church, originally St. Michael's and later Our Lady of Mount Carmel, both in Amsterdam. Dolores was first employed at Mohasco and "The BIG N" and finally the New York State Tax and Finance Department. There, she retired after many years, making lifelong friends and riding the bus to and from Albany daily.
As a beloved "Mom" in Amsterdam she cheerfully touched the lives of everyone she met AKA Gramma Dee or Mom Dygon to her children and grandchildren's friends. Gramma Dee's greatest pride and joy was her family, starting with her four boys, whom she adored, then her grandchildren, which were her entire world. She never missed any event no matter how small for each of her grandchildren. She was definitely on the sideline for every sporting event. Not only did she make scrapbooks of everything ever published in the paper about her family, but she did so for their friends too. She spent many years cheering on the Yankees, as well as Tom Brady with the Patriots. Yet most recently spent her Sunday afternoons keeping up with Patrick Mahomes.
Her neighbors might say "all is right in the world" if Dolores was out on her daily walk (weather permitting) with her gentle smile. There is no doubt she will be missed on her block and anywhere she spread her sunshine.
Dolores is predeceased by her son, Steven Dygon and grandson, Steven Dygon Jr.
She is survived by sons; John Dygon, Mike (Susan) Dygon, and Paul (Christina)Dygon; Grandchildren, Danielle (JP) Barone, Jake Dygon, Lisa (Joe) Thrailkill, Michael Dygon, Danika Dygon and Marisa Dygon; Great Grandchildren, Milania, Lucio and Andreo Barone; Daughter in law and eternal friend, Peggy Dygon; former husband and lifelong friend, William Dygon.
Calling hours will be Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 9:00 am-10:30 am at De Stefano Funeral Home, 1414 State Highway Rt. 5-S, Amsterdam, NY 12010, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery at a later date.

Dolores was my dear friend for over 50 years. I never forgot her birthday as it was the same as my Sister“s in Florida. We worked together in Mohasco Industries till we all lost our jobs when the Company relocated. Later with her encouragement I followed her to the NewYork State Department of Corrections in Albany. We were best friends riding the bus everyday! Fortunately we both retired and were able to enjoy our retirement for many years. I will never forget our weekly phone calls, miss them already. Dolores was one in a million friend, not only to me but also a great Mother to her 4 children, and grandchildren and great Grandchildren. Heavenly Prayers Farewell. Shirley Dado
