I was a waitress with Dolores at the Pioneer Rex Restaurant in Jackson, in the early 1970s. Dolores was so shy and sweet and didn't know what to think of me. I was only twenty when we met and she taught me the ropes of being a good waitress for a very difficult boss. I, in turn, taught her how to ride a motorcycle. She told me her dad had to drive her to and from work, they lived in Ione, and I told her she needed independence. We would go to Safeway's parking lot in the evening and practice. I was quite surprised Dolores learned so quickly. She then went to Spinetti's Honda on Main St. and bought herself a motorcycle. I was so proud of her.
I am not sure if I have met, in my now many years on this earth, a sweeter, kinder or more gentle women who had a quick blush and a quicker giggle. I am sorry I didn't see Dolores again after those years of waitressing. We were a good team back then. Rest in peace. xoxo
