Dolores B. Nowakowski, a dedicated librarian and beloved matriarch, passed peacefully on December 18, 2025, in Mason, Ohio. Born on March 12, 1930, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dolores was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (nee Donnelly) Gimpel. She cherished her family and devoted her life to the pursuit of knowledge and community engagement.
Dolores pursued her education with passion, earning an Associates Degree that laid the foundation for her career as a librarian. Throughout her professional life, she was known for her outgoing personality and her commitment to staying informed about the world around her. Her involvement with the Qui Vive Club of Mason exemplified her dedication to community service and connection.
At home, Dolores found joy in a variety of hobbies and interests that included spending quality time with her family, playing cards and dancing with her late husband, Matthew J. Nowakowski, and indulging in her love for reading and golf. Additionally, she was a long-time member of St. Susanna Catholic Church, where her faith played a significant role in her life. An award-winning quilter, Dolores also took great pride in her craftsmanship and creativity.
Dolores is survived by her four children: Marybeth (Phil) Cox, Michaela (Jim Barry) Nowakowski, Ellen (Greg) Humphrey, and John (Cheryl) Nowakowski. She delightfully watched her family grow to include grandchildren Jason Cox, Stacy Cox, Amanda Harding, Noah Shumaker, Maddy Johnson, Bernadette Shumaker, Ryan Barry, and Olivia Nowakowski, as well as seven great-grandchildren.
Dolores will be lovingly remembered by her many family members and friends who feel profound gratitude for the vibrant life she led. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Matthew, and her brother Donald Gimpel. Dolores B. Nowakowski leaves behind a legacy of love, knowledge, and creativity that will forever resonate within the hearts of those she touched.
