Dolores (Dee) Jean Turcotte passed away on Sunday 11/09/2025! She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on 9/16/1927 to Leroy Miller and Lucille (Rieger) Miller.
She was born during the great depression, and her family moved many times throughout her childhood. She had fond memories of the 1-room schoolhouse in Great Belt, PA where she started her education. Eventually she came back to Pittsburgh where she graduated from Allegheny High School during WW2.
It was then that she started dating her future husband George Turcotte who she met at a dance hall. He was stationed there in the Air Corps, while he trained to become a Morse Code operator, prior to being deployed to Europe for the duration of WW2. They corresponded as much as possible during that time and he proposed to her in Morse Code. She had to go to the local library to translate what the message said!
After George returned from the war in 1946, she moved with him to his hometown in North Adams, MA. They got married on May 11th at Notre Dame church rectory and eventually bought their home at 102 Brooklyn Street. They lived the entire 62 years of their married life there until he passed away in 2008. Dolores worked at various office jobs over the years. But she was best known for her time at the Sears catalog store, and at the local newspaper the Transcript until she retired in 1990.
She was quite the lady who had an inner toughness that came through in the fact that she survived 2 bouts with TB, and 2 more with cancer. Plus, the loss of her 1st born son Ronny at the age of 2. Through all of this she kept her faith, spirituality, and her positive attitude. She was just a kind soul who never had a really bad thing to say about anyone.
She eventually had her son Jeff whom she loved with all her heart from his first breath to her last one. She was there for him through everything and supported whatever he was doing. So much so that when he was a teenager, she would sit in the living room and read the paper while he practiced his drums. Later in life she took on a huge role in raising her granddaughter Heather, who she also adored. They spent endless hours together and she could be as silly as a teenager at times.
In 2008 her life took a huge turn when her husband passed away, and she sold the family home. At 80 years old she was on her own for the first time and started over in Southampton, MA. This gave her the chance to spend far more time with her grandsons Cody and Joel as they grew up. She had a special relationship, especially in the past few years, with her daughter-in-law Patty who helped care for her in many ways! She became a part of a Community Center knitting group making lap robes, hats, and mittens to be donated to the elderly. She also continued her weight loss journey being a part of TOPS, where she met her goal and maintained it for the rest of her life. Through all of this she made countless friends along the way, the best being her "Dunkin Pals" who were always there for her! Her grandchildren eventually started families of their own and she was so happy to become GiGi to Aaron, Landon, and Blake. Everyone that knew her loved her and she will be remembered for many years to come as a kind and thoughtful person.
She was predeceased by her husband George Turcotte, her son Ronny. Her sister Norma Aceves, and her brother Ronnie Miller are both from PA. She will be greatly missed by her son Jeff Turcotte, and his wife Patty. Her granddaughter Heather Senecal, and her husband Stephen and their son Aaron. Her grandson Cody Turcotte, and his fiancé Stephanie Johnson and their children Landon and Blake. Her grandson Joel Turcotte and her niece Jane McGuire and her family, her nephew Dan Williams and his family. Her sisters Shirley Skinner, Janice Grant, and Bonnie Flinn and their families.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring! Donations in Dolores memory can be made to the Easthampton Community Center https://easthamptoncommunitycenter.org/donate/
