On January 12, 2024, Domenic Joseph Rizzitano was called home. During the Depression, his mother, Mary Ingegneri Rizzitano (American born) and Francesco Domenico Rizzitano (an Italian immigrant) moved to Italy where his father still owned farmland. Dom was born on May 15, 1938 in Messina, Sicily, Italy. After surviving World War II, his family returned to the United States arriving at Ellis Island on October 12, 1947.
His family settled in Boston. Dom attended Boston Tech High School and Franklin Institute. He joined the US Air Force in 1958. While stationed in Gulf Port, Mississippi, he met and married Yanca Marie Sanderson. Together, they had seven children. The family resided in Stoughton, Massachusetts for many years and later moved to Weymouth. Domenic and Yanca divorced, but remained cordial. In 1983, Dom married Janet Mezzetti. They spent many happy years at their waterfront home in Plymouth.
Dom owned Rich's Furniture in Weymouth for over 30 years where he was known as the "Bean Bag King." He was an avid Boston sports fan, loved to travel and was a friend to all. He encouraged his children and grand children to participate in sports and he loved watching their games.
Domenic is preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister, Rose (aka Sister Mary Veronica Rizzitano). He is survived by his loving wife, Janet Mezzetti Rizzitano, his sister Natalie Marchi, his children Veronica Rizzitano, Francis Rizzitano (Michelle), Domenic Rizzitano Jr, Christine Murakami, Susan Gould (Marc), James Rizzitano (Michelle), Anthony Rizzitano, his stepchildren, Dennis Obert (Lauren), Justin Obert (Jacqui), Kimberlee DeSantis, 24 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many more friends and relatives.
