Dominic Proto Obituary
January 7, 1933 - March 1, 2023
Dominic S. Proto, 90, of East Haven, beloved husband of 67 years to Patricia Morro Proto, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2023 at Apple Rehab Laurel Woods. Loving father of Anthony Proto of New Haven and Janice (Kevin) Volpe of East Haven. Grandfather of Annamarie (Marc) Williams, Dana (Daniel) Romano, Dominic Proto, and Amanda and Kevin Volpe. Dominic is also survived by five great-grandchildren. Brother of Anthony (Marlene) Proto of Virginia and Andrew (Dolly) Proto of North Haven. Dominic was born in New Haven on January 7, 1933 son of the late Anthony and Theresa Laudano Proto. Prior to his retirement, Dominic was a mail handler for the U.S. Postal Service. He served his country faithfully in the Army during the Korean War.
His funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd., (Rte. 80) East Haven, Monday morning at 10:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at Our Lady of Pompeii Church at 11:00. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery. Family friends may call Monday Morning from 8:30 to 10:30. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org . Our dear uncle Dominic, 21 years ago at our wedding at the Catholic Church of the Vietnamese Martyrs in Richmond, Virginia we had the honor of your and aunt Patty's presence. Over this weekend at this church, prayers were offered for you during the prayers of the faithful. May you rest in peace uncle Dominic. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. To the Proto Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. His nephew, Andrew Morro and I, used to see him and Pattie at Twin Pines whenever we went there. They were a staple there. He would always be waiting outside or in the car for Pattie because she had to talk to everybody on the way out simply because she knew everybody on the way out. Dominic, rest in peace now. Please know that your family will be in my thoughts and prayers during this trying time. I am praying for Pattie also.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Dominic. I started my postal career in 1967 as a mail handler. I had the pleasure of working with Dominic, on and off for many years.
Not only was he a conscientious worker, he was very kind and friendly.
I have so many fond memories, of him from back in the day.
