Dominick Frank Frontale Sr. of North Syracuse passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, on October 23, 2025. Born on November 20, 1937 in Syracuse, he was the beloved son of the late Louis and Bridget Frontale.
Dominick graduated in 1955 from North High School in Syracuse. Upon graduation, he proudly joined the United States Navy and served aboard aircraft carriers USS Bennington and USS Oriskany. He was stationed in both Clarksville, TN and San Diego, CA, and worked in the nuclear weapons ordinance areas aboard both ships.
He fondly reminisced about his tours in the Far East, particularly enjoying his visits to Japan and Hong Kong. These experiences left a lasting impression on him, enriching his perspective on the world. In 2023, he was exceptionally proud to be part of the Honor Flight Mission 18 to Washington, DC, visiting several military monuments and Arlington National Cemetery. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Dominick returned to Syracuse, where he embarked on a long-lasting career with General Electric and Lockheed Martin, which spanned four decades.
Dominick married his high school sweetheart, Angela "Babe" Ianno, in September 1961. Their marriage, lasting an impressive 59 years, served as an inspiring example of love and commitment for future generations. Together, they built a life filled with joy, surrounded by a large and cherished network of family and friends. They shared a passion for travel, annually visiting Aruba with friends and spending their winters in Cocoa Beach, FL, during their retirement years. A particularly memorable occasion was their 50th wedding anniversary trip to Italy, a special trip that was shared with their sons, siblings, extended family, and many close friends, marking a highlight in their travel experiences. He looked forward to reuniting with all his childhood friends at their weekly 'coffee club' gatherings at Wegman's.
Dominick's greatest love was his family. He was a dedicated husband, father, son, brother, and in-law, but the role he treasured most was that of grandfather. Affectionately known as "Peepop," his five grandsons and three granddaughters were the very center of his universe. His devotion to them, and his entire family, was evident to all who knew him.
Dominick is predeceased by his wife, Angela (Ianno) Frontale; his parents, Louis and Bridget Frontale; his beloved brother, Ciro Frontale; his brothers-in-law, Tony Spinella, Anthony Ianno, and Joseph Mento; and his sisters-in-law, Grace Ianno, Cecilia Ianno, and Carmella Mento.
He leaves behind his cherished family: four sons, Louis (Karen Holl), Dominick (Cindy), Patrick (Renee), and Jeffrey (Michele); grandchildren: Nicholas, Olivia, Christopher, Samuel, Bridget, Sophia, Luke, and Marco; two great-grandchildren: Gwendolyn and Gia; brother-in-law, Victor Ianno; sisters-in-law, Grace Frontale and Celestine Spinella. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The Frontale Family extends their deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff at West Taft FamilyCare, as well as the nurses and doctors on 4 west at Upstate Community and the Neuro ICU staff at the Upstate Downtown Campus for their exceptional care and compassion.
