Our dear husband, father, and grandfather peacefully passed away at his home surrounded by his family on March 23, 2024.

Don Carl Cottrell 89 was born July 30, 1934, in Ogden, Utah.  He was the oldest of three children born to Carl Bruce Cottrell and Leone Stringham Cottrell.  Don grew up in Kaysville and graduated from Dear Old Davis High School in 1952. While attending Davis he participated in sports playing basketball.  At Davis is where he met Ann Park; they were married November 12, 1954.  They would have been married for 70 years this November.

Dad never shied away from hard work and always felt that he was guided to the perfect career.  He had a lot of energy, a love of the outdoors, and a hand for drafting. He loved math and the challenges of surveying, engineering, and supervising large highway construction projects.  In April of 1954, he went to work for the Utah Highway department.  After 33 years with UDOT he retired at 53 and made his part time job running Cottrell Surveying, his land surveying business, a full time 2nd career until the age of 70.

Dad took great pride in his yard, winning several Kaysville City awards.  Many would drive by and stop to see how beautiful it was.  Dad was the only person we knew that would mow his lawn twice in different directions to make it look like a MLB baseball field.  He loved to draw, sketching many pictures including old barns, friends faces and wildlife.  He loved to attend his grandchildren’s activities from playing basketball, football, soccer, golf, piano recitals; school plays, and was always excited to see them when they came to visit.

As his health was declining, he loved to watch the many birds, wild turkeys, and deer that would come to visit him in his yard each day.

Dad was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He served many callings and often helped those in need throughout the Kaysville community.  Dad and Mom had the privilege of serving several missions in Cody, Wyoming.

Dad is survived by his loving wife Ann, daughters; Julie (Marc) Lee, Debbie (Trent) Weaver, sons; Kris (Robin) Cottrell and Kurt (Angie) Cottrell, 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, brother Jim (Lynette) Cottrell and sister Lorraine (Larry) Kidman.

Preceded in death by his parents, Carl Bruce Cottrell and Leone Stringham Cottrell.

A special thanks to Brock and Cecy from Bristol Hospice, Mark and Mary Ebert, and his sister and brother for their weekly visits.

We would like to extend a very special thank you to our brother Kris for his countless hours of care and attention to dad.
