Funeral services will be held on March 31, 2026 at Northwest Church of Christ in Plainview, TX at 10 A.M. Burial will follow at Plainview Memorial Park. Services are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview.
Don Hayes, age 83, was born in Sherman, TX 10/27/42 to Andrew & Teeny Hayes. They relocated to Plainview in 1953 and graduated from Plainview High School in 1961.
Don attended Wayland College for 2 years and attended Texas Tech in 1965 when he started farming. He then met a young sweet girl from church, Dianna Owen and they married July 10, 1964. He was a member of the 11'and Amarillo St. Church of Christ and then Northwest Church of Christ.
In his young years Don enjoyed playing the banjo & harmonica. He ran around with his church buddies and his brother Bill, Gerald Bedwell, Thomas Richburg, Joe Don Offield, Lewis Senter & Joy Offield. Don loved telling jokes and pulling pranks with his brother Bill & cousins, Dan, Jack on their sisters Ann & LaRue, During harvest Don could be found playing dominos with Jimmy Dean at the Service Gin. Don also enjoyed flying with his good friend Mike Hutcherson. He was a history buff and enjoyed talking about the history of his ancient coins. He also enjoyed his afternoon coffee meets with his coffee buddies.
Don was a farmer and farmed with his brother Bill for 18 years and on his own until he retired from farming in 2007. Don & Bill also built several houses on the side of farming.
Don was an avid collector of ancient coins, guns, knives & pocket watches. After he retired, he began collecting old post cards, cancelled checks, old promissory notes and title deeds.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and niece Allison Wall.
He is survived by his wife Dianna of 61 years, his children, Ginger Adams (Steven), Guy Hayes (Karrie), Jeff Hayes, Jenette Dunning (D Wayne) all of Plainview. He has 4 grandchildren Kamber Espinoza (Boomer), Dylan Hayes (Mady), Brendan Dunning & Tyler Dunning and : great grandchildren Harlow Jo & Jake. His brother Bill Hayes (Kathy) and a nephew Elliot Hayes and niece Andrea Hooper.
Memorials can be made to Northwest Church of Christ, Church of Christ India or Church Christ Belize.
