Don Hennings Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bowser Family Funeral Home - Mena on Oct. 21, 2025.
Don "Butch" Eugene Hennings, age 78, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at his home. He was born on Tuesday, February 11, 1947, to Cassius and Phyllis Hoeke Hennings in Ortonville, Minnesota.
Butch was a down to earth man who never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was a dedicated dairy farmer and carpenter for many years and a true jack of all trades, skilled in woodworking, working on old cars, and building model trains. Butch excelled at anything he set his hands and mind to. He found great joy in fishing, especially for catfish, but he was happy with whatever happened to bite. His deep commitment to his community was shown through 48 years of service with the Cherry Hill Fire Department, where he served as Fire Chief, Captain, and maintenance officer. A man of strong faith, Butch was a long time member of the Cherry Hill Gospel Church, where he found fellowship and peace. He will be remembered for his hard work and conversation.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Ardell Gallego, Joyce Bissell, and Cassius Hennings Jr..
Butch is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Frances Hennings of Mena; one son and daughter in law, Donald and Regina Hennings of Mena; one grandson, Nicholas Hennings of Fort Smith; two granddaughters, Brittney Matthews and Nikki Hale of Mena; one brother and sister in law, Richard and Regina Hennings of Georgia; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Ouachita Cemetery in Cherry Hill, Arkansas with Brother Mark Lyle and Brother John Stubbs officiating under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena, Arkansas.
