Donald Sylvester Obituary

Donald A. Sylvester, 65, of Wever, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at 9:24 a.m. at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill. after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born on Sept. 11, 1959 in Fort Madison to Donald and Clarine Millspaugh Sylvester. Clarine and Bill Roxlau were later married and raised and loved all of their children. On Aug. 2, 1980 he and Debra Menke were married in Fort Madison. Don worked at the Iowa State Penitentiary and retired after 35 years of service. He was a former member of Wever Fire and Rescue. Don was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his children.

Survivors include his wife, Deb Sylvester of Wever; one son, Danny Sylvester of Guttenberg; one daughter, Katie (Kelsey) Miller of Fort Madison and his granddog, Oliver; one sister, Donni Sue (Dave Steward) Karczmarczyk of Fort Madison and one brother, Pat Roxlau of Fort Madison; his sisters and brother in law, Barb Menke of Bolingbrook, Ill., Teresa (JB) Young of Fort Madison and Randy (Becky) Menke of Charlotte, N.C.; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mary Ann Roxlau and his mother and father in law, Lillian and Don Menke.

Per his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. The visitation for Don will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with a brief service to be held following. The memorial mass will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church.

A memorial has been established for the Fort Madison Clay Crushers and the Teresa Adams House in Quincy and online condolences may be left at www.kinglynk.com
