Funeral service for Don Elvis Tapscott, 91, will be Sunday, January 5, 2025 at 3 pm at Salem Community Church, Hartselle, AL with Bro Barry Moley officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 at the church.
Don passed away on January 1, 2025. He was born on January 23, 1933 in Hartselle to Elvis Olen Tapscott and Viola Vest Tapscott. He began attending Salem United Methodist Church as a child with his mother and was a life-time member and currently served on the finance committee.
He was a graduate of Morgan County High School and served in the United States Army. While stationed in Detroit, MI, he met the love of his life Carol where they married and moved the family to Alabama after his discharge. Don began his career as a lab engineer at Chemstrand/Monsanto, now Solutia and retired after 30+ years of service. He was a life-long member of the VFW and American Legion where he served as post commander. He most enjoyed the annual American Legion's Christmas program which provided gifts to needy children. Don was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing winning several fishing tournaments. He also loved hunting whitetail deer on his farm in Sumter County, AL.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carol Kokonen Tapscott, his brother- Jimmy W. Tapscott, and grandson Brian Nelson Dutton.
He is survived by daughters Donna Anne Barnes, Sharon Rose Helms and Karen Ruth Anderson, son, Thomas Don Tapscott; grandchildren Brandon Dutton, Melanie Stewart, Leslie Freeman, Laura Lea Hays, Matt Tapscott, Josh Moore and Amberly Anderson; 18 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and nephew Blake Tapscott.
Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Chasteen, Jay Anderson, Jayce Johnson, Jeff Helms, Jerry Johnson, Richard Greenhill, Gary Shaneyfelt, Steve Howard, Tony Watson, Foster Gentle, Avery Mann, Cody Snipes, Doug Keel and William Parminter.
