Mr. Don Hatton Vanhook, age 83, of Nashville and a native of Lebanon, passed away September 8, 2025, at Ahava Healthcare of Clarksville. Don was the son of the late Horace and Georgie Reeves Vanhook. He was a 1959 graduate of Lebanon High School and attended the University of Tennessee. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Era having served in the South Pacific. He retired from the State of Tennessee Department of Transportation with 49 years of service having been an engineer and road designer. He was a member of Saturn Drive Baptist Church in Nashville. He worked drag rases for IHRA and NHRA. He loved hiking in the Great Smokey Mountains and the Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia. He was taught by his grandmother how to buck dance and chew tobacco. Don knew he was loved and will be missed all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years: Peggie Walker Patterson Vanhook; two sons: Don (Mary) Vanhook Jr, Andrew Vanhook; two grandsons: Hunter (Tami) Vanhook, Sammy (Alexandra) Vanhook; two step-sons: Kelley Patterson, Jeff (Nici) Patterson.
A visitation will be held Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 1-3 p.m. with a celebration of life to follow at 3 p.m. Rev. Joe Coleman will officiate with eulogies by family and friends. Military Honors will be rendered by Fort Campbell's Honor Guard. Please feel free to dress casual for the celebration. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children.
