Don White

     Donald R. White, 90, of Carmi, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. He was born on October 7, 1934, in Burnt Prairie, Illinois, the son of Lehman and Gladys (Roser) White. Don married Margaret Rose Miller on October 4, 1963, and she preceded him in death on January 4, 2013. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He taught auto mechanics at the Carmi Vocational School in Centerville, for many years, and then went on to teach at Carmi High School. Don also owned White and Sons Garage in Carmi. He was a member of the Carmi Kiwanis, The White County Historical Society, Civil Defense, and the White County Retired Teachers Association. Don enjoyed fishing, woodworking, painting, gardening, taking care of his flowers and yard. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

     Don is survived by his children, Rodney White of Carbondale, IL, Rhonda Smith of Carbondale, IL. and Robyn White of Carmi, IL; grandchildren, Courtney (Steve Sawyer) Smith and Dylan Smith of Carbondale, IL; one great-grandchild, Katelyn (Nathaniel) Crum of Marion, IL; siblings, Donna Kaye Land of Carmi, IL. and Alan D. (Linda) White of Thornton, CO. In addition to his wife, Margaret White, Don is preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Alice Marie Flaherty-White.

     Funeral services for Don White will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the White County Memorial Garden Chapel, with burial White County Memorial Garden in Carmi. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Don's memory to the White County Retired Teachers Association, and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, who is in charge of arrangements.
