On October 7, 2025 Dona McMillan quietly went home to join her husband of over 40 years, Alan H. McMillan, who died suddenly on January 15, 2002.
Donaciana Lara was born November 15, 1930, the fourth of fifteen children, born to Eulalio and Luz Torres Lara in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
In her teenage years she worked as a hospital nurse's aide until children and family became her priority.
A lifelong learner, she received her GED in 1984 and together with Alan completed formal certification as a Master Gardener. Dona devoted countless hours landscaping and beautifying their large yard on Madison Avenue, which was outside the edge of town in the 1950's.
Dona's creative nature also included sewing clothing and home decorating. She was a voracious reader, filling notebooks with the titles ready, particularly enjoying Amish fiction in her later years.
As her eyesight slipped away, she spent peaceful hours on the deck feeding and enjoying the antics of backyard wildlife.
In addition to her parents, Dona was preceded in death by eight of her siblings.
She is survived by her three daughters: Deborah, Marie, and Roberta (Bertie Jay and spouse Mike White) and generations of grandchildren who sadly will miss the nurturing of her gentle, loving spirit.
Dona's final resting place will be with her husband, Alan at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
