Dona K. (McCann) Rooney, 88, of Asbury, died Thursday, December 25, 2025, at Grand Meadows in Asbury.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 16, 2026 at Graceway Baptist Church, 5010 South Farm Road 135,
Springfield, MO 65810. Burial will be at Meramec Hills Memorial Lawn in
Cuba, Missouri, at a later date.
Dona was born August 30, 1937, in
Cuba, MO, the daughter of Donald E. and Catherine K. (Short) McCann. She was united in marriage to Thomas Rooney in February 1993 in
St. Louis, MO, they later divorced but remained friends until his passing in 2019.
She graduated from Cuba High School,
Cuba, Missouri, in 1955. Dona continued her education at Lindenwood University, receiving a Bachelor's of Science in 1969 and a Master's of Arts Degree from Webster University in 1978.
Dona was an elementary school teacher at the Parkway School District for 30 years, specializing in the gifted program, retiring in 1999.
Dona had season tickets to the St. Louis Symphony and always looked forward to attending events at the Fox Theatre with family and friends as well. She also found joy in singing with the local choir, playing the piano, reading, and caring for her flower garden. Some of her happiest moments were spent with her sister, Cathy, shopping, laughing, and just being silly together. Some of her most cherished memories were of traveling to Ireland and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her two sons, David (Mary) Fant of
Galena, IL and John M. (Lisa) Fant of
Boston, MA; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Catherine Mary (Dwayne) Nixon of
Springfield, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
Dona was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Thomas (Pamela) McCann; and one great-grandchild.
