Donald Pierre Badie, of Cape Coral, Florida, passed on August 25, 2024, at 12:30 pm at his home.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 30, 1936. He is preceded his death was his father, Pierre dit Lebet Badie, born 3/16/1902 in Erce Ariege, France. Immigrated to America in 1929. He became an Executive French Chef at high end restaurants in and around Chicago. Don's mother was Eleanore Helen Slater, born 1910 in Chicago. A brother, Terry Dean Badie, born 1942 in Chicago.
His 1st wife, Gregietta Pauline Murphy, deceased in 2013.
They left 3 children, Donald Gregory Badie in Florida, Darlene Susan (Badie) Leyck who had 2 sons, Benjamin Leyck and Garrett Leyck of Indiana.
Daenen Pierre Badie, wife Basia and son Gage Badie of Indiana.
His 2nd wife preceded him in death in 2013, Pamela Coyle of Chicago, they had no children.
They retired to Cape Coral, Florida in 1989.
In 1953 at the age of 17, Don entered active service with the Marine Corp. Served honorably and on 3 August 1955 was discharged with the rank of Corporal.
Soon after his separation from the Marine Corp., he went to work for ACME STEEL MILL, Chicago.
Working laborer and moving up to operator of an electric furnace.
During these years he became strongly involved with his Union, was elected to various Union positions and as a Union Staff Representative.
Don, able to meet other Union Staff and their members, he cared deeply about his own members and the great organization UNITED STEELWORKERS of AMERICA.
He worked tirelessly to make his Local Union members and all steel workers to enjoy a better quality and standard of living. Most of them became politically involved in electing competent congressional representatives that would support and pass meaningful legislation for Union families.
Don will be missed by many people that over the years worked with him in the steel mill, organizing and creating SOAR, workers in Florida.
He was a staff member, as a coordinator for the ALLIANCE MANUFACTURERING, as SOAR Leader who traveled the entire State of Florida and was the STEELWORKER ORGANIZATION OF ACTIVE RETIREES in Florida.
A great leader, thank you, Don, we shall all miss you. You did your job, above and beyond, rest in peace, with love from of us.
Don will rest with his brothers in arms at the Sarasota National Cemetery.

Don I will miss our talks, our brainstorming on policies, you have been a honorable Marine Corp Brother, and an Honorable Union Leader, but most of all a great Friend.
