Donald Ray Bennett

Donald Ray Bennett, 92, of Asheboro, NC, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026. He was born on August 1, 1933, in Randolph County, NC and remained a lifelong resident of the area.

Donald was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Christine Sprouse Bennett, who passed away in 1983. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Bennett and Alma Freeman Bennett; his sons, Curtis Mitchell, John Mitchell, and Andrew Bennett; his daughter, Carolyn Kearns; his brothers, Clyde Bennett, Floyd Bennett, and Archie Bennett; and his sisters, Irene Foust, Aillene Damron, and Lecy Forkner.

He is survived by his sons, Dale Bennett of High Point, NC and Donald Mitchell and wife Kathy of Thomasville, NC; his daughters, Ella Potter and husband Randy of High Point, and Patricia Morrill and husband Chris of Hope Mills, NC. He is also survived by five granddaughters, six grandsons, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved cat, Opie.

Donald was a dedicated truck driver for over 50 years, a profession he took great pride in throughout his life. He was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served with the 82nd Airborne Division. He was also a devoted member of American Legion Post 85.

In his free time, Donald found joy in gardening, growing both beautiful flowers and fresh vegetables. He had a special love for animals and greatly enjoyed birdwatching. He could often be found watching western movies and wrestling, two of his favorite pastimes.

A funeral service will be held at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, with Pastor Ken Reaves officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

A burial will be held at 2:00 PM of Friday, March 6, 2026, at Augusta Memorial Park Cemetery in Waynesboro, VA.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Red Cross. The family would like to thank Randolph County Sheriff Greg Seabolt and his staff for their kindness and care when conducting wellness checks on Donald's behalf.

Donald will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love for family, and the simple joys that brought him happiness throughout his long and meaningful life.
