Donald W. Bestman, 90, of The Villages, Florida, was welcomed into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Friday, October 31, 2025, at his home, with his beloved wife of 66 years, Charlotte, tenderly by his side.

Don's life was a testament to faith, devotion, and quiet strength. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend whose legacy of love and integrity will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. At his request, his body will be cremated, and a Celebration of Life gathering may be held at a future date. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church on Highway 441, just north of The Villages.

Born on March 11, 1935, in Palmyra, Missouri, to J.H. and Lena H. Bestman, Don grew up with a deep sense of duty and compassion that shaped every chapter of his life. On June 13, 1959, he married his soulmate, (Mary) Charlotte Williams, at Zion Lutheran Church in Palmyra. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering commitment.

Don is survived by Charlotte and their two daughters, Wendy Elliott (Mark) of Wilmington, NC, and Penny Steinberg (Michael) of Gainesville, FL, who carry forward his wisdom and warmth. He was a proud grandfather to Joshua Elliott (Younglee), Samantha Rodriquez (Barrett), Abbey Hunt (Byron), and Lilly Zenor (Alex), and a joyful great-grandfather to Cadence, Catalina, and Cora Rodriquez; James and Jason Elliott; Rey Hunt; and Zeke Zenor. His love for his family was boundless, and he delighted in every moment spent with them. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who remember him with affection and gratitude.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings-Elizabeth Ann Denish, Marjorie Kuntemeyer, Horace Bestman, and John Bestman-whose memories he held close.

Don served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Jefferson County (LST 845), with a home port in San Diego, CA. His sense of service continued throughout his civilian life, where he dedicated over four decades to public service and community leadership. He worked for the City of Palmyra, MO, for twenty years in various roles, including City Clerk, City Collector and Assistant Secretary of the Board of Public Works. He later joined Northeast Missouri Electric Power Cooperative, where he retired in 1997 as Manager of Administration and Finance.

In retirement, Don and Charlotte embraced adventure and together explored the country in their motor home, spending winters in California, Arizona, Texas, and Florida. In 2008, they settled in The Villages, where Don found joy in golf, fellowship, and the warmth of the Florida sun.

Don's commitment to community was unwavering. He served as Secretary of the Palmyra Chamber of Commerce, and was an active member of the Kiwanis Club, the Palmyra Industrial Development Authority, and the American Legion. His faith guided his life, and he served Zion Lutheran Church in Palmyra in many roles-Sunday School teacher, Superintendent, Financial Secretary, and Vice President of the Congregation.

Don will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his steadfast faith, and the quiet way he made everyone feel seen and valued. His legacy is one of love, service, and grace-a life well-lived and deeply cherished.

Mr. Bestman and I shared a birthday, March 11. I remember calling him on my 10th birthday because I was so excited to be in the double digits! He was always so kind to me.
I also have great memories of camping at Lucky Lakes with the whole gang.
My sympathies to Mrs. Bestman and the family. God's peace.

So many great memories of the second most influential man in my life. We were next door neighbors, went to the same church and Wendy and Penny attended Zion Lutheran school together with us. We were together more than apart. I am very thankful that God placed him and his family with ours. RIP Don, you were one of the best. I miss you dearly.

Charlotte and family, So sorry for your loss. Don was a soft spoken, kind, person.
I have fond memories of a time, when you, Don, and my parents, George and Marguerite, were in a Lutheran couples club. My sister and I couldn“t have been more than six or seven. We went skating in Hannibal at the roller rink. You and Don helped my sister and I to skate, as our parents sat on the side line and watched! Special memories that we cherish!
