Colonel Donald R. Buchwald

I am saddened and offer my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. I worked in the Pacific Region in Hawaii and met with COL Buchwald on several occasions while he was Active Duty and after his retirement in his civilian career at Medical Directorate in Philadelphia. He was always appreciative of the work of others.

Ellie, I can't express how sorry I am for your loss. Don was so special. I remember when I arrived at USAMMA as a no-nothing captain, Don and I shared the same office space. Everyday I learned so much under his tutelage, and I was both grateful to him and flattered that he took the time and had the patience to teach me what I had to know to survive in my new job. I'll never forget that. I also remember when he told me that you and he were expecting your first child. He was grinning like a cheshire cat, he was so proud and happy! I always envied him for his brilliance, his compassion and his patience with people. Our deepest condolences to Ellie and the Buchwald family. Don was a soldier from start to finish. He lived the motto, "mission, men and then yourself." We met Don and his family back in 1979 when he was reassigned to the Frankfurt Army Regional Medical Center and then again over the years when he became the Director of Medical Materiel at the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support.
