He married Judith Ludlum on August 23, 1958 in St. Philomena Catholic Church in Belmont (The 1st wedding held in the church). Together they farmed in the Truman area until 1972, when they sold the farm and moved to Belmont.
Don started working at Belmont Implement, later working for numerous years at Elk Grove township as a patrolman. During this time he also worked part time at the Belmont Sale Barn (along with his wife Judy and son Bill). He served on the Belmont School Board for 18 years, as well as positioning all entries down Main Street for the Belmont School and Community Fair Parade. After his retirement from Elk Grove, he worked at Cushman's Greenhouse watering the plants and flowers and later Dodge Point Country Club mowing grass.
Don is survived by his children; Sue (Gary) Farrey of Belmont, James (Susan) Buss of Madison, Barb (Jeff) Brickl of Prairie du Sac, Bill (Shirley) Buss of Platteville and Steve (Sandy) Buss of Cross Plains, he is further survived by his 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, as well as his only sister Dorothy Calvert of Oconto and a sister-in-law Pat Forbes of Mineral Point, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years Judy, parents Homer and Helen Buss, in-laws Gib and Anna Ludlum, grandson Chris Schaaf, granddaughter Michelle Buss, son-in-law Dave Ballweg, three brothers-in-law Dave Graber, Tom Forbes and George Calvert.
During Don's free time, he spent lots of time doing things he really loved, like golfing, numerous trips to Branson, Missouri, watching NASCAR and the Green Bay Packers. He also loved making golf clubs for many family members. Don and Judy had season tickets to the Packers until 2017 when they transferred them to their kids. He and Judy loved going to Sunday morning breakfast with friends.
