Donald Calkins Obituary
He was born in Plattsburgh on February 11th 1958 the son of James and Caroline Calkins .
Don was a proud Army Veteran with years of Law Enforcement service that began in the Clinton County Sheriff's Department in 1979 and continued on as a Lieutenant in the New York State Court system until his retirement in 2013.
In his free time he enjoyed going out with his wife and friends, and riding his Harley in the warmer months.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 44 years, Mary Lou Calkins; his children, Erin (Lukas) Payro, and Michael (Erica) Calkins; grandchildren, Abigayle, Dylan, Charlotte and Quinn; mother, Caroline Calkins; and brother, Joseph Calkins; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, James Calkins; his grandparents and his sister in law .
Donations in memory of Donald James Calkins may be made to the charity of one's choice .
Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday, January 30, 2026 from 4 to 7 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. Military Honors will be presented at 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 1 PM at St. Alexander's Church, Morrisonville. The Calkins family invites you to join them at the Keeseville VFW on Sunday at noon for a Celebration of Don's Life.
Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 518-643-9055.

I'm sorry to hear about his passing. I worked with Don who was my supervisor. He had a good sense of humor and was a pleasure to work with. I have many good memories of Don.
