Donald Forrest Capps, age 93, a resident of Laredo, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home due to colon complications on Friday, July 4, 2025.
Don was born the son of Lawrence Olyx and Lula Mae (Mistler) Capps on September 22, 1931, in Osceola, Missouri.
Don loved living on the farm, he enjoyed raising cattle, hunting, fishing, playing card and Sudoku games, and was an avid baseball fan of the Royals, Dodger's and the A's.
On June 20, 1980, Don married his high school sweetheart, his one true love, Phyllis, in Carson City, Nevada. Don retired from Arbuckle, California, as a self-employed sugar beet farmer with a truck driving company. Don and Phyllis returned to Missouri to live out their lives on their farm.
Don was a proud hardworking man. Family meant the world to him, and he loved hosting family gatherings. He was honored to have been a dad to twelve children. Don's possession of faith in Christ was truly present in his heart, he inevitably, bore fruit as good works of service to God, his family, and his neighbors.
Don is survived by three daughters, Lou Tanzi (Joe) of Auburn, California, Donna Atkins (Dick) of Casa Grande, Arizona, and Candy Mason (Mike) of Cheyenne, Wyoming; son, Donald F. Capps II of Gainesville, Florida; three stepdaughters, Patricia Schwager (Ronald) of Chillicothe, Missouri, Paula Scott (Davey) of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Penny Colbert of Jacksonville, Florida; two stepsons, Steve Rader of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Eugene Day (Ruth) of Russellville, Arkansas; twenty-four grandchildren; fifty-seven great grandchildren; fifteen great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Phyllis; one son, Dale Capps; two stepdaughters, Pamela Thomas and Debbie Vigil; one granddaughter, Katie Scott; two great-great grandchildren, Annalynn Arbogast and Robbie Bates; two sisters, Melba Jones and Wilma Daines, and one infant sister; and four brothers, Merl, Nelson, Eugene and Bobby Capps.
Funeral services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, on Thursday, July 10, 2025, one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held at Plainview Cemetery, Chula, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to Plainview Cemetery and/or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601. Online condolences may be made at www.lindleyfuneralhomes.com.
