Donald Claypool, age 86, of New Berlin, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026 at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
He was born December 3, 1939 in Williamsville, IL, the son of Henry and Helena (Cunningham) Claypool.
Don married Velma Wilson on September 15, 1956 in Corinth, MS.
Mourning his passing are his wife, Velma; children, Debbie (husband James) Corbin, Peggy Thompson, Terry (wife Debbie) Claypool, Scott Claypool, and Rita (husband Mike) Curry; sixteen grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by a son, John Claypool; his parents, Helena and Henry; a brother, Carl; daughter-in-law, Laura Claypool; grandson, Steven Thompson; and great-granddaughter, Angel Richards.
Don attended Williamsville High School.
He worked for Curran Elevator, retiring from there after 32 years of service.
Don enjoyed old tractors and attending car shows.
Visitation for Don will be held from 10:00 AM until time of funeral services at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens. Burial will be held immediately after the service at Fancy Creek Cemetery near Sherman, Illinois.
Memorial contributions can be made to the New Berlin Fire Department or the Athens Christian Church.
