Donald Lamar "Don" Collins, a resident of Dothan, passed away Monday, December 4, 2023, after a brief illness. He was 88.
Funeral services for Don will be held at 11:00am, Friday, December 8, 2023, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Dr. Scott Cox officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service.
Don was born on May 26, 1935 in
Graceville, Florida to Waldon and Inez Collins. Don attended Poplar Springs School. He was employed in outside sales retiring in 1998 from a 27-year career with Evans Supply. He was also a member of the Southeast Alabama Football Officials Association for 30 years and served as president of the Wiregrass Lions Club. Don was a faithful member of Selma Baptist Church for over 60 years where he served as a deacon.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Shirley Singletary Collins and his son, Terry Collins.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Collins, his son Shannon (Charmon) Collins, brothers Ray (Betty) Collins, and Bruce (Sue) Collins, sisters Gloria Hinson, Patsy Hawkins and Sylvia Collins, daughter-in-law Judy Collins, several nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are Kevin Pettie, Joshua Pettie, Todd Walker, Rene` Glover, Glenn Paul and Russ Mendheim.
The family would like to thank Day Spring Hospice, Nana's Angels and his very special caregivers, Elizabeth Snellgrove, Kristen Stewart, Lynn Sawyer and Helen Reed.
