Obituary published on Legacy.com by Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home - Vevay on Nov. 11, 2025.
Mr. Donald E. "Donnie" Covington, age 89, of near East Enterprise, Indiana, entered this life on May 18, 1936 on Bennett Road near Markland, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late Paul and Eva B. (McClellan) Covington. He attended Phillip and Mt. Hope one-room schoolhouses and graduated in 1954 from the Vevay High School. Donnie met the love of his life, Pansy Lou Scudder, at the Allensville School, where he playfully chased her around the schoolyard - a story that would become a cherished family favorite. They were united in marriage on June 30, 1956 in
Vevay, Indiana, and shared over 69 wonderful years together. Donnie was inducted into the United States Army on May 5, 1960 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was transferred to the reserves and was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 5th Class on May 4, 1966. Together, Donnie and Pansy raised their sons, and through the years their family grew to include numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom were the joy of Donnie's life. Donnie had a heart of gold and was a hard worker and had a love for his community. For 35 years, he owned and operated Covington's Towing and Recovery of East Enterprise, Indiana, where he worked side by side with his boys. Over the years, Donnie also hauled milk for the late, Bob Park and Don Young, and later for Kraft Foods. In addition to these jobs, he also farmed for several years - a true testament to his tireless work ethic and dedication. He was elected and served as the Cotton Township Trustee on the Democratic ticket in 1978, a position he held for eight years. Donnie also was elected and served as a councilman for the Switzerland County Council for 24 years. He was also a devoted volunteer firefighter for 25 years with the East Enterprise Volunteer Fire Department, where he proudly served as treasurer for 12 years and helped get the firehouse built. Donnie will be remembered not only for his hard work ethic and devotion to his family but also for his quick wit and sharp sense of humor. He had a soft spot for his faithful companion dogs over the years, who were never far from his side. He had a way of bringing laughter to those around him with a clever remark or a teasing grin. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service that will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Donnie passed away at 7:07 p.m., Monday, November 10, 2025, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in
