Donald "Donnie" Covington

Donald "Donnie" Wayne Covington, 72, of Hamlet, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.

He was born November 21, 1953, in Richmond County, son of the late James Abijah Covington and Ada Tennant Covington.

Donnie was an active member of Second Baptist Church in Hamlet. He was always available and dependable to serve in every need of the church. He had a quiet presence and devoted his time to helping people. Donnie was a humble public servant in many ways, not only within his church but his community. It was said that "he sits easy in the saddle." He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Ernie Covington, and sister, Sharon Covington Heddle.

Left to cherish Donnie's memory is his sister, Janice Mercer, and husband Wayne, of Norwood; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends that shared in his journey.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 12:00pm at Second Baptist Church, Hamlet, with Pastor Chris Hawks officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00-11:50am.
