Waynesville, Donald M. Crawford, 92, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Mission Hospital. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Sam and Kate Medford Crawford. He is also preceded in death by a sister, Jean Palmer and a brother-in-law, Linton Palmer.
Donald started a military career in the United States Marine Corp, receiving a medal for Sharpshooter and Good Citizenship. He was in the Korean Conflict and was wounded where he received the Purple Heart.
Don spent 40 plus years as a building contractor and a farmer in Haywood County.
He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Chairman of the building committee.
Donald enjoyed bluegrass music festivals, building clocks, furniture and working on his farm. Don will be remembered for his great sense of humor. He loved spending time with his family, friends and all the neighbors.
Donald leaves behind his loving wife of 66 years, Sybil Bradshaw Crawford; a sister, Pat Howell; along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Antioch Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow the service at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church Building Fund or The Cemetery Fund, 542 Iron Duff Road, Waynesville, NC 28785.
The care of Mr. Crawford has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville
