I'm so sad to hear this. He was friends with my cousin. I have known him since I was a little girl. R. I. P. Donnie.

My condolences to you, Julie, and your children. Donnie and I were very close most of our lives. Loved that guy. Will miss him.

It is with great sorrow and heavy heart that I mourn the passing of my good friend and fellow SPRR Conductor Donald G. De Wald. Donald was one of a kind, his knowledge and expertise in the crew rooms where we worked across the SP and UP railroads was amazing. You could always depend on Donald to get the job done, no matter what part of the railroad system we were on. He will be missed by his many friends and family. My sincere condolences to Julie and the entire family. May you Rest In Peace good friend...

Squirrel was a mentor to all us young guys when we started. He truly was an encyclopedia of information about the railroad, he loved it and wanted us to love it as well. My first day on the job he walked up to me, introduced himself, shook my hand and welcomed me. I'll never forget him, he was my friend, I'll miss him. Love you Donnie, see you again someday.

My best friend on the railroad, it was a complete joy to work with you on the Santa Cruz Local; stopping at Norma Jean's for coffee in Aptos, switching out our train at the Davenport plant, and waving to your wife, daughter, and dogs on the way home in Capitola. All your co-workers & brothers in Local 31 in Watsonville will miss you but your spirit will always remain with us. You were one of a kind DG, we love you.
