Donald Eugene Ferguson, affectionately known as Don, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025, in Greer, SC, at the age of 91. Born on May 19, 1934, in Lake, Michigan, Don's journey through life was marked by his unwavering faith, his love for family, and his dedication to service.
Don's early years were spent on the family farm, where he developed a lifelong passion for gardening and meticulous yard care. His green thumb and love for the outdoors were evident in the vibrant blooms and immaculately kept lawns that surrounded his home. Don's personable nature made him a friend to many, and he was always ready with a warm smile and an open heart.
A patriot at his core, in his early years Don dedicated his time to serving his country in the Army. His commitment to duty and discipline was mirrored in his civilian life, where he worked diligently in various roles. Whether it was in the factory, as a milk hauler in the dairy industry, or as a machine shop operator, Don's work ethic was unmatched. Even after retirement, he continued to embody the values of hard work and perseverance that had been instilled in him from a young age.
Don's faith was the cornerstone of his existence. He was a devout and active member of Airport Baptist Church in Greer, SC, where his sonorous voice could be heard in the choir, uplifting others in song. His love for reading the Bible was matched only by his desire to share the word of Christ with anyone he met. Don's life was a testament to his faith-filled spirit, and his legacy continues to inspire those who knew him.
Family was the light of Don's life. He is survived by his loving sisters, Nola, Darlene, and Mary; his brothers, Dave and Bruce; and predeceased by his sisters Vaudry, Tean and brother Art. Don's legacy includes his cherished children, Ed, Kay, Bill, Robert, Dawn, and Glen, as well as his stepdaughters, Cheryl, and Tammy. His lineage extends to a boatload of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. Don also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, each touched by his kindness and love.
Described by those who knew him as faith-filled, loving, and friendly, Don's influence reached far beyond his immediate circle. His ability to connect with people from all walks of life, his generous spirit, and his unwavering commitment to his beliefs and values will be deeply missed by all.
