Donald Ford Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lux Funeral Home & Cremation Services from Sep. 22 to Sep. 23, 2025.
Donald L. Ford, 78, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025 in New Braunfels, Texas. Born on January 29, 1947, in Columbia, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Luther Ford and Ruby McKay. He will be remembered for his devotion to God and family, compassion and sense of humor.

Donald proudly served in the United States Army during the late 1960s, stationed in Korea. His military service remained a source of pride throughout his life and reflected his deep sense of duty.

After completing his service, Donald returned to Columbia where he worked for many years in the maintenance department of Richland School District Two before retiring. In addition to his work with the school district, he owned and operated a roofing company and applied his mechanical skills as a diesel mechanic for Pepsi-Cola. He also worked with Fort Roofing during his career. Donald's hands-on approach and commitment to hard work left a lasting impression on those around him.

A devoted Christian, Donald was a media church member of SonLife Broadcasting Network and previously a member at Royal Pines Holiness Church in Columbia for many years, where he served as a deacon. His faith was a guiding force throughout his life.

Donald enjoyed fishing, camping, spontaneous road trips, and watching classic westerns-simple pleasures that brought him peace and meaningful time with his loved ones.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Edna Lee Ford; daughter, Michelle Hansen (Shane); grandchildren, Shane Hansen II and Madison Hansen; siblings Larry Ford, Stanley Ford (Vickie), Roger Ford, Debbie Birdsell (Keith), and long-time friend who was like a brother, Thomas Rowe (Donna), along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandmother, Jesse Wallace; brother, Jimmy Ford; and sister, Loretta Rawls.

A memorial service will be held at a later time. We encourage loved ones to share memories and upload pictures of Donald to the memory timeline (on this page)for all to cherish.
